As I mentioned back in January, we’ve got a big change coming up – we’re moving! Well, I’m moving home to my parents’ house in SC while David deploys, and then when he gets back we don’t know where we’ll be living.
We have just a few days left in NC before David deploys and I move home to SC! I can’t believe this week I had my last day at work, and we only have a few nights left in the house we’ve called home for the past year and a half. Believe it or not, this is the longest we’ve ever lived in one place! I’m hoping our next record will beat 17 months, but with the Marine Corps in charge, there’s no guarantee of living anywhere for any amount of time.
Since moving in, we’ve had a ton of life changes: David joined his first squadron and has gained a ton of experience flying around the world, I changed careers from health advocacy to interior design and launched ECP Home as a business, and we’ve had the ups and downs of wanting to grow our family but learning to trust in God’s timing for us. It feels like we’ve lived here for much longer because we’ve had numerous milestones during that time and have grown so much as a couple.
It would be super easy to be sad during this time, and I definitely have my days. But in the spirit of trying to grin and bear it, I thought it could be fun to take a look back at the day we moved in and share some before and afters with you! Lilly somehow managed to get in almost all of the before photos – see if you can find her.
LIVING ROOM
We only changed decor in the living room, and man what a difference that makes! It takes this jumbled up mess of our stuff and turned it into a cozy spot that we spent a lot of time in.
SITTING AREA
OFFICE
My favorite room that we made ours was the office. When we moved in, I was working full time from home so it was super important to me to love this space. The biggest change was having it painted a calming neutral, but my favorite change was adding the farmhouse desk that my dad built!
MASTER BEDROOM
We didn’t do anything to the master bedroom other than add furniture and decor, but it’s still a pretty dramatic difference!
GUEST BATHROOM
Another big change was the guest bathroom. This was my first “DIY” project for the rental house and I was so excited for how it turned out! Overall I wanted to lighten up and neutralize this space, and it turned out exactly how I envisioned it. You can read about the full project here.
GUEST BEDROOM
My other “DIY” project was revamping the guest bedroom. David was out of town for a couple of weeks and I always do better if I stay busy while he’s gone, so I decided to paint and update this bedroom! I used the leftover paint from the office and used the comforter that was inside the duvet cover to give the guest room a facelift without breaking the bank.
You can read more about this project here.
KITCHEN
The kitchen is another area that looks totally different just from accessories, furniture, and wall decor. I’m going to miss how much character this space has! The chalk painted china cabinet was a labor of love and I can’t wait to use it in our next house.
Living here has been a dream and I’m so excited for whoever lives here next. I hope it will feel as much like home to them as it has to us.
