Hi, friends! We’re officially moved back to NC and are getting settled in before baby boy joins us in a few short weeks. It’s hard to believe our moving whirlwind has finally come to an end!
Now that we’re moved in, it’s time to start making this house feel like home. I love everything about our kitchen, but there isn’t any light directly above the sink, and no subtle light to leave on as a nightlight. This is where our DIY project comes in!
I love the look of a barn light above a kitchen sink. But I don’t have the time (or the desire) to hire an electrician to hardwire for a sconce. After some research, I came across the perfect solution that requires zero technical skills and can give you the barn light (or other sconce) effect in less than 15 minutes.
15 MINUTE SCONCE LIGHTING
The first step is to pick out your light. I wanted a simple barn light in a bronze finish and selected this one from Wayfair. It was less than $40.00!
After you choose your light fixture, gather your supplies. You’ll need:
- A screw driver for installation
- Screws (if not included in the packaging with the light)
- A remote controlled puck light (I used this one from Lowe’s)
- Velcro squares
- Batteries
Next is the fun part! Inside the light fixture, where the light bulb would normally be placed, add the non-fuzzy side of your velcro squares. On the puck light, add the fuzzy squares. For this fixture, I used three squares in a triangle shape. Install the batteries in your puck light, and stick it into place on the light fixture.
Now you’re ready to hang the light fixture! Simply tuck the wires into the back plate, and screw the fixture into place. This fixture required two screws and took less than five minutes to install.
I’m in love with how ours turned out! The light turns on and off at the click of a button and provides just enough lighting for our space.
I hope this inspires you to give the puck light trick a try! It’s a perfect quick fix for adding a sconce to any space.
