The pantry is one of those places your friends never see. It can be hard for me to want to pour time and energy into a space that isn’t on display, but it drives me crazy for a space that’s used as much as the pantry to be in a disheveled mess. As someone who struggles with anxiety and depression, I find it very important to keep things organized – it makes me feel like I can breathe!
Our starting point was what I’d consider a pretty common pantry situation. It’s organized chaos at its finest, with everything having a “place” but nothing being easy to see/find unless you know exactly where to look.
After tackling my parents’ bathroom renovation a couple of weeks ago, I’ve been inspired to do ALL THE THINGS at my house. Literally every project I’ve been putting off is getting done, and the pantry is the first. All it took was some canvas totes, clear bins, tiered organizers, and a lazy Susan to rectify the situation and fulfill all of my OCD fantasies.
I categorized the contents of my pantry, and then ordered supplies accordingly. My pantry categories are:
- Teas & Coffee
- Cereal & Bars
- Disposables
- Cooking Essentials
- Cans/Misc.
- Spices
- Breads
- Chips & Snacks
- Baby Foods
- Pasta & Rice
- Foil & Ziplocks
- Baking & Sweets
The great thing about organizing, is you can do it to ANY space. It’s all about maximizing your space and thinking through how it can best function. Even if your space is small, think of how you can optimize every inch – hang things on walls, and make use of the height if you don’t have much width or depth.
All of my supplies were purchased from Amazon and delivered to my front door within a week. As a busy new mom, this was worth its weight in gold. And full disclosure – I did not measure ahead of time to make sure all of my containers would fit, or how they would all fit together. I’d recommend measuring before ordering your supplies, although it worked out for me this time.
Let me know how I can help you organize your home!
